THE TOWER OF PISA. 2019 was the year I finally got to see (and hug) the strange world famous ”Leaning Tower of Pisa” for the first time in my life.
The tower is a 55 meter freestanding bell tower right behind Pisa Cathedral at Piazza del Duomo. The tower begun to tilt during the construction in the 12th century – and have tilted even more since, but never fall down (even thou it has been close!) During a renovation in 1993 – 2001 they manage to straighten the tower 45 centimeter – but it seems like it keeps leaning, since then 4 more centimeters. I’m very impressed that it still stands after all this years, in the middle of storms, earthquakes and heavy rain – the tower stands strong, leaning but strong!
Piazza del Duomo was declared on UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. Some people include the tower among the seven wonders of the world, but not every one agree. Here you can read about my personal seven wonders of the world: http://worldbytina.se/2019/january/7-world-wonders.html
