HANAHOLMEN
Hanaholmen Cultural Center are located just outside Helsinki with good connections with busses and metro. This place is so much more than a hotel: Recreation center, art gallery, a sculpture park and spa – with the nature literally just around the corner. The whole place is screaming DESIGN. Timeless interior with nordic design (starstruck Josef Frank!) located at the border Helsinki/Espoo just outside Helsinki city centre.

I spent my days admire the art, taking long walks along the frozen archipelago, sauna sessions and late night walks trying to spot the northern light. And guess what!? Even though it’s very very rare to see the green queen in Helsinki – she did a show for me and it was magical!

HELKA
I was invited by a friend who was staying here to have a look at this cool arty hotel located in the area of Kamppi close to HAM – Helsinki Art Museum. Some of the rooms are transformed by different artists into walkable art. An art gallery that you can spend the night in. It was an instant love affair. Next time, I’m staying here. For sure!
”Not just a hotel, but rather a gigantic work of art that you can even sleep in.” This 4-star hotel is recommended by travel blogger Xavier from Belgium

HOTEL ARTHUR
Helsinki + Art Nouveau = YES! If you’re into the style often referred to as jugendstil or Art Nouveau (it’s a big thing in Helsinki!) Hotel Arthur is the place to be, since 1907. Located in the city centre with plenty of capacity for conferences and meetings surrounded by dark wood, golden decorations and pink pastel walls. You can almost hear the history talking to you. The building is designed by Vilho Penttilä who is the architect for many of the beautiful jugend styled buildings in Helsinki.

LAPLAND BULEVARDI
This hotel representing nordic design at its best, it’s natural yet luxury. The interior is dark and cosy with a touch of the famous nordic light. This is a five star hotel and wellness center with spa areas. Some of the rooms even got their own private sauna. When in Finland. Located right in the city center, approx 10 minutes walk to the train station and Kamppi which is the busy area for shopping.
”The Lapland Hotels Bulevardi is really our favorite, everything is right here and the service is excellent” Lapland Bulevardi is recommended by Henriette at Wellness Spots

DIANA PARK
Budget hotel with a homely feeling. I enjoyed a very good night sleep at Hostel Diana Park in the heart of Helsinki city where plenty of cool bars, antique and vintage shops and galleries are located. This hostel hotel are so friendly and warm. It almost feel like you are visiting someones home and the rooms are decorated with a lot of textiles with pattern instead of the normal ”all white bed linen look”. Very good choice for a home when away.

NOLI STUDIOS
Noli Studios is recommended by Denise, travel blogger from The Netherlands who’s the founder of the travel guide inhetvliegtuig.nl
Denise is writing: If you want to stay a little longer in Helsinki, are traveling solo or would like to meet new people, Noli Studios is the place to be. You can find Noli Studios at two locations in Helsinki, but secretly Noli Studios Katajanokka (near the iconic ferris wheel at the harbor) is the best. Here you will find everything you need to feel at home. Modern studios with their own kitchen and washing machine, the possibility to iron your clothes or use the free in-house gym, sauna and jacuzzi.
Due to the very good facilities, the studios are mainly rented out to expats, but you can also book a number of studios for just one night. This mix of expats and short-stay travelers means there is always an energetic atmosphere in the common areas. You can cook with other guests in the public kitchen, lounge in the modern lobby, enjoy the view on the rooftop terrace or collaborate in the well-equipped co-working spaces. Noli Studios has also a good restaurant and a 24/7 self check-in service.
I was invited to visit Denise one evening, where we hang out in the lobby ordering way to much sushi and drinking bubbles, it was a really good atmosphere and the rooftop view is a really cool addition to your ”home away”.

EUROHOSTEL CITY HUB
Backpacking budget. In the same area as Noli Studios there is also another alternative, Eurohostel Helsinki City Hub, which I was invited to stay a couple of nights to check it out. This is mostly a hostel but they also provide private hotel rooms including access to the sauna and kitchen area.
I really like the charm about hostels where you can meet other travelers and talk about the world over a beer or two. Often for less price AND great locations! I love the contrasts. Sometimes I sleep in luxury resorts, sometimes in someones airbnb- apartment, sometimes in a cabin or in a bungalow, sometimes it can even be a tent…or like tonight – in a private room in a hostel in Helsinki. I like variations!
